Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English Literature. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) which was based within Washington DC. The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was made chief of the congressional correspondent in 1988. In 1992, she became the to be the chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 she became the chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was on the panel of the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell worked in the White House first for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during the time of Ronald Reagan's two term as president. She reported on a number of noteworthy events such as arms control, budget tax reforms and the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to many summits with the help of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
